RE: Happy Thanksgiving from your mod.

This full time Texan who lives in Texas but owns a home in Arkansas flew the coop back to Arkansas for the holiday. It's in the 50's, severe clear and gorgeous. Our church will be feeding approximately 450 people today...those that have no where to go or no family...couldn't miss that! We are very thankful to God for all His many blessings to us. I'm most thankful today that my son is not at one of those hotels in Mubai...he's a flight attendant and said that's where they stay. Thank you Lord that he's stateside! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

RE: I do not know if i can go camping after my wife passed away

I'm so sorry for your loss. I found, at the loss of our 17 day old baby that words DO make a difference...when I received sympathy cards from total strangers, that really meant a lot, so maybe our words will be of some help to you at this very difficult time. If you don't mind, I'd like to share a few thoughts that may help you. First of all, make no rash decisions. Let things settle down for at least a year...your perspective will change in regards to what you want to do with your life. One thing that I did not do and wish I had, was to join a support group. I would have learned about the different stages of grief and how you can get stuck in 1 stage, which I did, for 20 yrs. The anger stage. 12 yrs. ago I got unstuck for lack of a better word, and my life has moved on. Please don't make the same mistake I did...seek counseling of some sort...there are free groups that meet...you can ck. your local library, or your doctor may be able to guide you to someone that can help you get through this difficult time. And talk...sometimes, just hearing your thoughts will help you sort things out. May God bless you at this very difficult time.

RE: Storing Household Goods

Have some of our stuff in a shed, everything of value or things that could be damaged are in a climate control storage unit. We're giving it a year and then it goes back to the house or we sell it. It's only about $1300.00 to store and will be a wise investment if we need it. Our thoughts too.

RE: Car travel with cats

Our kitty Barney loves to ride in Bill's lap or on a pillow between us in the truck on the divider between the seats. However, he's a happy cat and if yours aren't, a crate would be the best answer. There's some calming stuff in a spray that you can get at Walmart that you can spray inside the crate on a towel that calms them down supposedly also.

RE: Is your Grand Ma ready for the Change over?

I love all the new technology, but I also love the fact that my grandkids will learn so much that I can depend on them to do it for me when I become too old to remember how. Our 34 yr. old daughter can't figure out her new iphone (she said she's so busy she doesn't have time to read the book, but she hates technological things, so that's the real problem.) But her 8 yr. old son figured out how to do the gps to come see us yesterday! Kids...ya gotta love'em!

RE: What item can't you seem to get right?

This is a fun topic! I'm a pretty darn good cook, and am well on my way to becoming a pretty darn good baker too! I'll never be able to do as well with bread as my mother did, but I'm trying! :B I tend to like Italian foods, and find myself preparing and eating it a lot. It's tasty, it's easy, and pretty healthy too! But I cannot make gnocchi to save my life! THAT really IS an art! I have successfully made many pots of tasty wall paper paste though! :B To the poster above with chicken pot pie issues, what don't you like about yours? Pot pies (and crusts) are really pretty easy to make, what can we do to help you out? Eric My pot pie is too runny...I think the gravy isn't right.

RE: What item can't you seem to get right?

Call it cobbler and it'll be just fine! I have a problem with chicken pot pie...it's runny too. I don't think I have a good recipe is the main problem. Got one, anyone? Thanks!

RE: torn awning, can I repair?

My awning has a two foot tear in it. It starts at the corner right where it goes into the metal roll up piece. Is this repairable? If not, where is the cheapest place to get replacement fabric? I had awnings on my house that needed replacement and the cost was so high I couldn't believe it. So, I ended up at Hancock Fabrics and got awning material for either $4.99 or $5.99 a yard, believe it or not. I sure couldn't believe it...anyway, we bought it about 10 yrs. ago and had a friend who was a seamstress make them for us for $100 and they're still going strong, 10 yrs. later. Might want to ck. them out or even awning material online. Worth a try anyway.

RE: Decision time. Any Advice?

Dodge...can't beat'em! We love our Dodge diesel. We've had Dodge everything for about 10 yrs. with no problems out of the...period.

RE: Unbreakable Dinnerware

Yeah, Melmack was great, wasn't it? Lightweight and unbreakable. I looked for it too..thrift stores a great idea if you don't care what it looks like. We bought the thin stuff at WalMart...can't remember what you call it...something with an M I think. White...goes with everything...and square...fits the cabinets!

RE: RGV Ain't Windy

I HATE the wind, therefore, I love Canyon Lake, Tx. We have had NO wind to speak of for the past 6 mos. Once or twice a heavy breeze came along. But tonight a cold snap is due in and wind of 25 mph tomorrow. But by Sunday it will be gone. I can deal with that. Awning in..awning out....not enough wind to bother with it...so far anyway.

RE: The Picken's Plan for RVs?

I often wondered why people didn't mount a smaller version on the front of the RV, so that it would be generating while driving down the road. Seems as if it would be a good idea...and you'd get the batteries all charged up when you got to where you were going....and maybe even when you were there, if wind was working well!! Yeah, but think of all those bugs you'd murder!

RE: Rear kitchen

Our rear kitchen doesn't have a door out the rear, but not having the counter ejected into the living space is wonderful! We have tons of open space, counter space, cabinets, etc. I have room for every kitchen gadget I could ever want and lots of living room space to boot. Love our rear kitchen!

RE: Clear up my ignorance......

Our 5'er has the stabilizers built in, which we really like. We also have a rear kitchen which we LOVE - it gives us more open room. We took out the table and 4 chairs and put in another recliner (we have 2 lazy boys cause we removed the one that came with the 5'er and replaced it.) We love our 5'er!

RE: Is this all we need to do?

Easy enough to do this also.... I'd pull the plugs on the low point drains, maybe drain the water heater and leave the furnace on low. Open the cabinet doors under the sinks where there is plumbing to let the warm air circulate in. A few minutes of this will give you more peace of mind on your trip. Good advice! Thanks!

Is this all we need to do?

We are using our 5'er as a stationary home in Texas while our home in Arkansas is waiting to be sold. We have a son that cares for the home, and we will be returning for about 10 days for Thanksgiving. While we're gone we want to make sure that the 5'er doesn't freeze up in case it gets that cold while we're gone (1st freeze or near/freeze will be tomorrow night). We will turn off and unhook water, and the empty tanks, and lock up all doors, but is there anything I'm missing? Should we leave the heater on low or turn off the propane? Thanks!

RE: Getting ready for our first cold snap

I did fine with one cube heater at Watson Mill Bridge (GA) last week. I have a small trailer, though. One thing I find that helps is the way you dress. I was comfortable camping in the teens and in freezing rain last winter (and I have a feather lite--not built for cold weather). I wear long underwear, sweat suit, wool socks, sweat shirt, and a HAT (very important) and sleep in a sleeping bag. Of course, only my dogs get to see me!:E:E:E.... I'm not a socks type of person and I have to agree when traveling in the RV and it gets cold if you put socks on it makes a BIG difference how they keep you warm. Kinda cold nights in the MH and just putting socks on at night does the trick. It's a known fact we loose most of our body heat from our bodies from our head and feet. I just can't get used to wearing a hat at night though!:B I worried about staying warm in my first TT and then again with the MH and really it has never been that bad and I rarely turn the furnace on, just use the portable heaters.C We've found this to be true also...dress warmly! Several years back we had an ice storm and lost power for about 6 days in our all electric house. The kitchen/living room combo in our home is huge and where we camped out - next to the fireplace, which really didn't help that much cause the heat went straight up the flu. But what we found that helped tremendously in addition to dressing warmly were candles. We place quite a few around in that big area and it really took the chill out of the room. Of course in a trailer you have to be extra careful about candles, but a couple in the living area/kitchen will probably help take the chill out as well. We burn one daily anyway....helps with the romance.
